Art & Design

Our Art & Design curriculum is designed to inspire all pupils, regardless of age, ability, or background, to express themselves, build confidence, and develop a lifelong appreciation of the arts.

We aim to equip children with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to express ideas through a wide range of artistic media encouraging personal expression, celebrates cultural diversity, and helps children explore the world around them. Every child is valued and supported to see themselves as young artists.

How we teach art

Art is taught through a rich, skills-based curriculum that includes drawing, painting, collage, textiles, sculpture, digital art, and more.

Lessons are structured to allow experimentation in a safe, inclusive environment. Children study a variety of artists and use sketchbooks to track their progress from Early Years to Year 6. Art is also embedded across the wider curriculum and enhanced through visits, workshops, and cross-curricular projects.

We allow pupils to experiment in a safe environment where there are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ results, thus, both self-expression and self-esteem may be enhanced.

In the Early Years there is continuous provision of art and design opportunities: these activities make important contributions to children’s development in the areas of Expressive Arts and Design and Communication and Language. They are also important in children’s Personal, Social and Emotional development.

Pupils are confident, reflective, and creative learners who can articulate their ideas and evaluate their work thoughtfully. Every child is encouraged to explore their unique artistic voice and develop a lasting appreciation for the arts.
